Oympics 2016: Meet Katie Ladecky…She Who Spanked Her Opponents
One of the most memorable moments of this year’s Olympics for me was when Katie Ladecky smoked her opponents in the 800m relay. It was so memorable that I now call her “Katie Ladecky…She Who Spanked Her Opponents”.
Here’s what her win taught me about life…specifically business and how we “play” in the professional arena:
1. If you’re going to win – win big: Katie didn’t just win by a hair. She spanked her opponents in that relay. I mean…on about two or more laps she wasn’t even in the same frame as her opponents while they were recording via TV. That’s how far ahead she was. And not only that, but she broke the world record in addition to winning her gold medal.
2. Be an awesome team mate: If I recall correctly, Simone Manuel set Katie up for success in one of the team races they did during the Olympics. I don’t believe America won during that race, but Katie did graciously acknowledge her team mate’s hard work and how it set her up for success.
3. There’s nothing wrong with being likeable: Katie is the perfect combination of likeable yet at the top of her game. So often we see people who dominate, but they have terrible attitudes and personalities we wouldn’t otherwise seek out if we didn’t need their skill set. So it’s refreshing for those you work with and followers, fans and viewers when you have an awesome personality to match your skill set.
I can’t really describe the full impact watching this race had on me…so just watch it for yourself by clicking her picture below:
