Don’t Faint Devotional: Real Joy
“Joy”
I believe there is a huge difference between joy and happiness. From my experience, happiness is based on external circumstances, getting your way, and God giving you what you want. Joy is based on knowing God for who He really is, knowing that all things work out when you truly love God, and knowing that God is your savior and didn’t have to do anything more than sending Jesus to save you. Joy is also knowing that God did more than that for you anyways simply because He loves you.
I think in our walk as singles, God wants us to know true joy. I’m starting to realize that marriage is not an anecdote to being single. It’s a partnership that requires work for success. It’s a place where having joy is crucial because you do not know what will come your way after your union with the man God brings you. I’ve heard it said to plan for the marriage, not just the wedding. So seek now to have joy rather than only happiness.
