John 15: 7, NLT “But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!”

I don’t like being preachy. I’m an exhorter (encourager) by nature so I like to inspire others to practically apply the Word of God to their lives. And I’ve found that preaching usually doesn’t help you do this. But I want to share an experience with you so that you can be fruitful by abiding in the true vine, Jesus Christ. Also, although you can’t tell by the title of this article, this isn’t really about getting what you want out of God. It’s about Him getting what He wants and is due from you.

I attended the DNA Young Women’s Conference at my church – New Life Providence – a few weekends. I try not to go up to the altar at this church – EVER – because every time I do, I weep. But when God tells you to do something, you do well to obey.

To make a long story short I went up to the altar at the altar call and kneeled. And wept. In a nutshell, I suddenly felt so unworthy to kneel before a holy God who gave Jesus Christ to save my life. Who brought me to this beautiful place of worship where His presence is so real I can feel it on me the minute I walk in. As I wept, He said “Stay with me. Let me give you double for your troubles”. It’s a wonder I didn’t wind up laid out on the floor. God has been restoring me, calling me back to Him. Calling me for a purpose greater than myself. And those words were like life to my spirit.

Now I’m living in the Vine by prayer, reading the Word and the Holy Spirit. If you want the same, go to John 15 in your Bible and meditate on it line by line. I can’t guarantee that it’s the solution to unwanted singleness, but I can tell you that my life has been drastically different since living in the vine.
